Redmond named Tree City for 11th consecutive year

For the 11th consecutive year, the City of Redmond has been named a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation. Redmond has received this national award in recognition of its commitment to its trees and urban/community forests.

For the 11th consecutive year, the City of Redmond has been named a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation.

Redmond has received this national award in recognition of its commitment to its trees and urban/community forests.

Criteria for the award includes having a caretaker for area trees, a tree care ordinance, a community Forestry program and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

“Trees are a vital component of the infrastructure in our cities and towns,” stated John Rosenow, chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation. “Cities that are recognized with a Tree City USA designation go to great lengths to plant and care for the community forest.”

Teresa Kluver, Redmond parks operations supervisor commented, “The City of Redmond has enjoyed a long commitment to the care and preservation of trees. The recognition as a Tree City USA contributes to the City’s efforts to educate the public regarding the ecological, social and economic importance of trees in Redmond.”

The Tree City USA program is sponsored by The National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service.
