Redmond police dog Vader captured a fleeing male from an in-progress residential burglary this afternoon in the Grass Lawn neighborhood at around 12:45 p.m.

Redmond dispatchers received a 911 call at 11:07 a.m. from a witness who spotted a male trying to break into a neighbor’s home in the 6500 block of 141st Place NE. As police responded, the man got into the passenger seat of a car being driven by a second suspect; he later bailed out of the car leaving the driver and a toddler in the vehicle. The driver was taken into custody without incident and the child was turned over to Child Protective Services.

Redmond, Bellevue, and Kirkland police officers set up a perimeter in the area while Vader tracked the man for over an hour through several miles of trails, neighborhoods, and parks. The suspect was finally captured near the intersection of Northeast 63rd Street and 136th Ave Northeast.

The fleeing suspect was arrested and will be transported to King County Jail for assault of a police officer 3, residential burglary, and eluding police. Both men had multiple felony and misdemeanor warrants. The fleeing suspect and K-9 handler both sustained minor injuries. Police will be interviewing the suspects about residential burglaries that occurred in the area over the last month.

The arrest was made possible by the citizen who noticed suspicious activity and the teamwork by Redmond, Bellevue, and Kirkland police.

In the last two weeks, the collaboration of Eastside agencies has resulted in several felony arrests.
