Nevada bolted out to a 4-0 lead on five singles in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back against Redmond.
The squad from Las Vegas defeated the local majors softballers, 11-1, in five innings at the Little League Softball West Regionals in San Bernardino, California, on July 27 in a game livestreamed on ESPN+.
Redmond (10-2) will next play Northern California at 4 p.m. on July 28 in an elimination game to be livestreamed on ESPN+.
Vegas added four more runs to go up 8-0 in the second inning on a mixture of hits and walks. Nevada added a run in the fourth and had the winning run on second when Mia Perez fanned a batter to end the inning. There is a 10-run rule after four innings.
Redmond’s Kati Cygan singled to drive in Addy Ruess in the fifth inning to cut the score to 9-1. Redmond was looking to do some more damage, but left the bases loaded after a line out to end the inning.
Defensively, Redmond’s lefty catcher Cygan gunned out a runner trying to steal second to end the first inning. Second baseman Livy Ruess extended her body into the air to snag an out in the second inning.
Ainsley Barcalow singled in the first and Addy Ruess doubled in the third to notch Redmond’s other hits.
