Redmond Senior Center presents third annual Winter Whimsy performance series

Winter Whimsy begins Feb. 21.

The Redmond Senior Center (RSC) in partnership with Aegis of Marymoor and Aegis of Redmond will present the third annual Winter Whimsy Performance Series starting Feb. 21.

This year’s performance series will feature comedians Matt Baker and Joe Stoddard, magician Steve Baker, magicians Trevor and Lorena Watters and entertainers Nate Jester and Henrik Bothe.

“It’s a random type of event,” city of Redmond recreation division manager Jeff Hagan, said. “Sometimes there’s music, sometimes it’s comedians, sometimes it’s both and more. It’s always a little off the wall.”

Aegis of Redmond approached the city more than three years ago to host a family-friendly event during the winter season.

“It’s an opportunity for friends and family to go out and enjoy something fun together,” Hagan said. “It’s just a lot of fun.”

Unlike the previous two years, when the performances were held at the RSC, this year’s Winter Whimsy will be held at City Hall (15670 NE 85th St.).

Some of the acts return every year and others are new each year.

“We try to get a hodgepodge of different acts to come each year,” Hagan said.

For the Feb. 21 show, Matt Baker and Hamilton will take the stage.

Matt Baker’s show is a combination of stand-up comedy and stunts. His diverse skill set has earned him five Guinness World Records. Hamilton’s “Steve the Pretty Good” show takes magic and blends unique and funny twists.

Trevor and Lorena Watters and Stoddard will perform on Feb. 28. The Watters’ show combines comedy and magic with cutting-edge illusions, sleight of hand effects and audience participation. Stoddard offers a blend of music and comedy with every performance.

Jester and Bothe will close out the final Winter Whimsy performance on March 6. Jester and Bothe are longtime entertainers. From plate spinning to escaping a straight jacket while riding a unicycle, both are well known across the nation.

“I just love seeing the community show up and enjoy the show,” Hagan said. “Everyone always leaves happy with smiles on their faces.”

At each Winter Whimsy performance, there will be a reception with light snacks from 6-7 p.m. Shows go from 7-8 p.m. Tickets are $5 in advance and $8 at the door. For more information about Winter Whimsy, visit www.redmond.gov/206/Redmond-Senior-Center.
