Redmond recognizes outgoing councilmembers and mayor

Councilmembers Hank Myers and Hank Margeson and Mayor John Marchione all served in their current positions for 12 years.

Redmond councilmembers Hank Myers and Hank Margeson, and Mayor John Marchione were recognized at the council meeting on Dec. 10. The outgoing councilmembers were recognized for their distinguished service to the community.

Marchione and mayor-elect Angela Birney recognized both Myers and Margeson.

“Everywhere you go, whatever the community service project is, councilmember Myers is there,” Marchione said. “He’s served our community with dignity and enthusiasm and I don’t expect that to stop or taper off in any such way.”

Accepting his recognition, Myers said it has been an unexcelled pleasure being on council for 12 years.

“It has been an unalloyed joy for me to be here and I’m looking forward to new horizons,” he said. “Thank you all for your support. “

Margeson also received a parting gift from council.

“For these past 12 years, Hank has served the city with fierce passion for our community,” Marchione said. “It has been a pleasure to be his friend but also a pleasure to work with [him] in these community endeavors such as running a city.”

Birney thanked Margeson for being a mentor.

“He’s been an integral part of this community,” she said.” He’s done things for this region that will last into the next century…I know [he] will continue to be part of this region and continue to give all that [he] can to everyone around [him].”

Receiving his gift, Margeson said he intends to stay in the area.

“I will stay involved as best I possibly can to help propel the city forward,” he said.

To conclude the recognitions, Birney presented a gift and city seal to Marchione.

“He has served this city and region well,” she said. “He has changed us from a small town to a growing city…There are not enough words to express what a great legacy you leave for this city.”

Marchione thanked Angela and the audience.

“It’s been an honor and a pleasure to serve the community,” Marchione said. “Best 12 years of my career.”

To conclude, Marchione said it’s his dream for the next mayor and council to be better.

“For Redmond to continue being a great city, we need our next mayor to be better than the last one,” he told Birney. “Mayors stand on the shoulders of the previous mayors and raise the city up one by one.”
