On Friday night, the Mustangs jumped out to a big lead against the Vikings, 35-22 at the half, and despite Inglemoor’s 23-point effort in the fourth-quarter, the home team held them off to win by eight.

Leslie Ellis and Jason Harrington both had big games, scoring 22 for Redmond in the win.

On Saturday during their Senior Night and league finale, the offense was firing on all cylinders as Redmond put up a season-high 84 points, including two quarters of 25 points or more.

With the wins, Redmond took the No. 2 seed in the Crest Division and will play the No. 3 Crown seed, Ballard (8-7, 10-10) on Tuesday night at home in their Kingco Tournament opener, tipoff at 7:30 p.m.

In their previous meeting this year, Redmond edged out the Beavers 54-50 back on Dec. 20.

De Faria only Mustang wrestler to advance from Kingco

The Redmond High wrestling team had a tough league tournament last weekend at Issaquah High School, as nearly all the Mustangs’ state hopefuls came up one match short of earning a placing spot into this weekend’s regional tournament against the South Puget Sound League.

Marcio De Faria, a sophomore, was the Mustangs’ only advancer, placing fifth in the 138 weight class.

De Faria opened up his tournament with a 12-3 win over Dean Patrick of Inglemoor, and punched his ticket to districts with a second-round pin of Eastlake’s Ryan Martinez in 3:29.

After losing a tough match to Jerdon Helgeson of Issaquah 5-4, De Faria came back and won his 5th/6th final against Mark Smith of Eastlake, 13-5.

De Faria will wrestle at Rogers High School in Puyallup this weekend as the team’s only representative, where the top five placers in each division will advance to the Tacoma Dome’s Mat Classic Feb. 17 and 18.
