Evergreen Middle School robotics team to compete in world championship

The robotics season is underway and the team from Evergreen Middle School in Redmond is off to a great start.

Team 47U, or Discobotz, have competed in multiple events already and were recently ranked No. 1 in the world for all middle school teams. There are nearly 3,000 teams across the globe and the Discobotz have accumulated more points than all of them, according to a press release.

The robotics team competes in the VEX IQ Challenge. The competition provides elementary and middle school students with open-ended robotics and research project challenges. The competitions enhance their science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) skills through hands-on, student-centered learning. The Discobotz have won robot skills, teamwork championship and excellence awards in two of the tournaments they have attended so far, the release states.

The Discobotz have a few more tournaments left, including the state tournament in Ellensburg on Feb. 23. The team competed in the world championship last year, placing sixth in the skills challenge and 28th in the teamwork challenge, the release states.
