Pedestrian killed in vehicle collision

Investigators believe inclement weather and low visibility were the major factor.

A woman died the evening of Dec. 28 after being struck by a large van while she was crossing the street.

The incident happened just before 5 p.m. in the 2600 block of 152nd Avenue Northeast in Redmond.

The woman was in the marked crosswalk when she was hit by the van as it was making a left turn from a driveway onto southbound 152nd Avenue Northeast. Bystanders performed CPR and aid arrived quickly but the woman died at the scene, according to a Redmond police press release.

The driver of the van, a 35-year-old man, was cooperative with police and showed no signs of impairment, the release states. Investigators believe inclement weather and low visibility were likely the major factor in the collision. The incident is not being treated as a criminal investigation.

The victim appeared to be in her 60s or 70s and the medical examiner is working to identify her and notify her family, the release states.
