One volleyballer, two fastpitch players and two soccer Stangs.

Those were the Redmond High girls standouts who were at the forefront of the colorful celebration on Nov. 14 at the school as they signed their national letters of intent to play ball in college next season.

Family members, coaches, teammates and instructors were there for support amongst the balloons, pennants and banners marking the hues for each college.

Maya Holmen is set for volleyball at Seattle Pacific University, Haley Hanson will hit the fastpitch diamond at Sacramento State, Taylor Pisan will head to the soccer pitch at the University of Redlands, Lindsey Honhart will continue her soccer career at Whitman College and Kiki Milloy will join the fastpitch squad at the University of Tennessee.

On the volleyball court, Holmen enjoyed notching some five-set wins this season and taking a set from undefeated Mercer Island last year.

“I learned a lot about teamwork and family and I definitely want to take those values with me to SPU and learn how to work as a team,” she said.

Mustang fastpitch teammates Hanson and Milloy stood side by side after the signing and said it’s been a special experience being a part of the program.

“Meeting so many cool people and having the best teammates in the world and they push me to be the best I can be… Like Kiki,” Hanson said as she nudged Milloy. “My favorite memory is winning the 3A state championship, that was just the best feeling in the world.”

Hanson added that she’s looking forward to keep playing her favorite sport in the entire world, and she’s excited to meet new people in Sacramento and soak up the California sun.

Playing for her community and interacting with others has been a huge plus for Milloy.

“When I play, so many little girls come out to see us and the whole Redmond softball team, and just knowing we’re inspiring them and pushing them to play a sport and be an athlete is just amazing,” said Milloy, adding that she aims to keep making an impact on the diamond at the highest level of college ball and in one of the best conferences (Southeastern) in the country.

Pisan and Honhart just finished competing in the 4A state soccer tournament after winning some big matches in KingCo and district play.

For Pisan, one of the top elements of RHS soccer has been the team culture.

“I’m really excited to meet new teammates, but having the bonding experience that Redmond has taught me is definitely so strong and that was an awesome part,” said Pisan, adding that she loves being competitive, but also enjoys being a teammate and having a group of friends by her side.

Honhart echoed Pisan’s sentiments: “I’ve made my best friends for life and I love being able to be part of a community, like wearing your jersey to school and looking up at the stands and seeing all your friends there. I think it’s really what makes high school such a good experience.”

The Whitman-bound athlete said the most successful individuals and teams play for each other and that’s been a big part of her career.
