Runners from Redmond High, Bear Creek and Overlake competed at Saturday’s 1A and 4A state cross country meet 5K races at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.
In 4A action, Redmond’s boys took fifth and the girls finished eighth in the team standings.
The boys team consists of Dereje Himbago, George Cretu, Cooper Arons, Lance Mason, Thomas Sigall, Travis Mason and Ethan Ashley.
Himbago was tops for the Mustangs with a 25th-place 15:59.40.
The Mustang girls are Lili Hargreaves, Chloe Connolly, Lauren Lehr, Naho Masaki, Zephyr Tao, Anna Petrbokova and Tasia Meyer.
Hargreaves led the local girls with a 13th-place 19:02.80.
For Bear Creek in 1A, Olivia Markezich took third in 18:32.70 and Andrea Markezich placed fifth in 18:57.80. Alex Finan also ran for Bear Creek.
For Overlake in 1A, the girls team took 14th and consisted of Sophie Sharp, Anya Sharma, Liv Sather, Annika Mihata, Raini Bozarth, Jessica Colleran and Radha Iyer. They are the first girls Overlake cross country team in school history to make state.
Overlake’s Zach Foster and Alan Ngouenet also competed. Foster is the first Overlake runner to qualify for state all four years.
