Martin Roy Berndt passed away on October 29, 2018. He is preceded in death by his wife Kate Berndt who recently passed in January of this year.
He is survived by his three children and six grandchildren. Susan Berndt-Knighton, her husband Rick Knighton and their children Blake and Sean; Jeannette Finch and her children Chris, Alex and Ray and David Berndt, his wife Laurie Berndt and their daughter Jenna.
Marty was born on April 5, 1941 in Redondo Beach, CA. He joined the US Navy at age eighteen and became a Maintenance Technician for the EA-6B Prowler. While serving his country he received the Navy Commendation Medal, a Republic of Vietnam Unit Citation and several Good Conduct awards.
He retired from the Navy in 1979 after serving twenty years. He is a member of the VFW, Eagles, Knights of Columbus and was a frequent volunteer and visitor of the Redmond Senior Center. Marty’s constant companion Marley will be going to a good home with a friend from the senior center.
Marty was a kind, loving man with a great sense of humor. No one was a stranger to him, within minutes of meeting him he would be your friend. He will be missed by all who loved him.
Services will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA, Monday, November 12, 2018 at 2:30 pm. Wake to follow.
