The Bear Creek School was awarded the Scholastic Cup for the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) Class 2B classification for the second year in a row.
Bear Creek earned nine team/activity scholastic championships this year and sent several teams each season to dtate championship competitions which earned the school a total of 1,740 points.
“We are honored to receive this award which continues The Bear Creek School student-athlete tradition of pursuing wholeness in mind and body through academic and athletic excellence,” said Head of School Patrick Carruth.
The Scholastic Cup championship competition is a year-long program designed by the WIAA and is awarded to the top school in each of the six WIAA classifications. The Scholastic Cup is emblematic of the top interscholastic programs in Washington that display excellence in academics, sportsmanship, and athletic performances throughout the school year. The Scholastic Cup is awarded to the schools that compile the highest Scholastic Cup points based on their participation and finish at the various state championships.
Bear Creek has enjoyed unprecedented academic success during the 2009-2010 school year. The following nine varsity teams and activities earned Academic State Championships: Band, Boys Basketball, Boys Soccer, Boys Track & Field, Choir, Forensics, Girls Cross Country, Girls Tennis, and Girls Track & Field.
Bear Creek sports teams enjoyed success on the court/field/track as well. In the fall, four teams qualified for their state tournaments which led to an eighth place finish for volleyball and a second place finish for boys soccer.
In the winter season, the boys basketball team placed fifth at the state championships for the second time in three years.
This spring saw four golfers heading for the state links returning with a seventh place individual medal and a second-place team finish for the boys. The Grizzlies boys’ doubles tennis pair of Jamie Meyer/JakeImam played their way into the championship match at state, returning with second-place medals. The track and field team sent their largest-ever contingent to the state track and field meet and came home with medals in three relays and five individual events including Madelyn Magee’s state championship in high jump.
