Bear Creek senior Lucas Peterson beat the first-half buzzer with an incredible three-quarter court shot to give his team a commanding 38-25 lead at the break as the Grizzlies beat the Wildcats in the opener of the Bellevue College Holiday Tournament last night, 64-51.
Peterson finished with 11 points, while Ryan Strandin led the team with 15 points and five rebounds.
Bear Creek (6-1 overall) will now take on No. 9 Sammamish in the tournament semifinals tonight at 5:15 p.m. at Bellevue College.
MUSTANGS FALL TO SEATTLE PREP
The Panthers of Seattle Prep scored 38 of their 58 points in the second half as they closed strong and beat Redmond in the Slalom Slam semifinals on Tuesday Night at Seattle Prep, 58-48.
Redmond’s leading scorer, Jason Harrington, had another solid night as he led all scorers with 21 points, followed by Andrew Squiers with nine and Conner Floan with eight.
The Mustangs (5-4 overall) will now take on McQueen from Reno in the consolation finals.
REDMOND GIRLS STIFLED BY JACKSON
The Lady Mustangs were outmatched by a hot-shooting Jackson High team during their Kingco/Wesco Challenge opener last night as they fell 64-40 to the Timberwolves, who led 42-28 at the half.
For the Mustangs, Stacey Kimball scored 15, followed by Jordyn Ohrt with 10 and Lauren Bogard with seven.
With the loss, the team dropped to 2-5 overall and will play 3A Glacier Peak this afternoon.
OWL BOYS WIN MISMATCH IN WALLA WALLA
Overlake had no trouble in its opening-round match of the D.A. Davidson Christmas Classic at Whitman College in Walla Walla, shutting out Columbia (Hunters) in the first quarter and going on to win 65-22.
Nine different players scored for the Owls, who were led by Dean Poplawski and Cameron Lui with 11 each. Jackson Umberger also reached double digits with 10.
Overlake (2-6 overall) will now take on the Athena, Ore. team of Weston-McEwen this afternoon in the tournament semifinals.
