Last night, the Mustangs ended that drought with a 1-0 victory over Skyline to claim the 4A Kingco title in a rain-soaked game at Skyline.

Junior Sierra Bilginer nailed home a 15-yard shot from the right side in the 63rd minute off an assist from Kelsey Costello to notch the victory. The Redmond win broke Skyline’s 37-match unbeaten streak.

“Everyone believed in each other — we never got discouraged or down and when we were faced with adversity, we found a way to get past it and learn from it! Great life skills,” the girls soccer Web site reads.

Redmond came close to scoring minutes before Bilginer’s strike when Skyline’s goalkeeper saved Kennedy Kieneker’s shot off the goal line via a Kristin Hayman corner kick.

Redmond (11-4-2 overall) is Kingco’s No. 1 seed to the state playoffs and will host a game next week.
