Four Redmond Elementary students reported that a male suspect driving a vehicle pointed a gun at them as they walked home from school at about 4:40 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to a press release, none of the children were injured and they ran from the area in the 8400 block of 167th Avenue Northeast and back to their nearby residence.

Redmond Police Department detectives are investigating the report that the driver of the vehicle, which was occupied by four males, held a black gun out of the car’s window while it drove past the children. The vehicle was described as a beat-up, grey or black sedan with tinted windows, and the students described the vehicle’s occupants as two white males and two black males.

The description of the driver is similar to that of the suspect involved in an armed robbery about an hour later at the Redmond Mud Bay pet supply store in the 8800 block of 161st Avenue Northeast.

“Detectives are investigating to see if these incidents are related but have not confirmed if it was the same suspect,” the release states.

The robbery press release states that the victim and witnesses described the suspect as a black male in his 20s, about 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-11 with a lean build. The suspect was lighter skinned with dark eyes and sported a hood covering his head.

“Redmond police are increasing patrols in the area and encourage the public to share any tips or information they may have. The safety of our community’s children and neighborhoods is of utmost concern to us,” the release states.
