Michael Conforto fell in love with baseball watching Seattle Mariners games at Safeco Field as a kid.

On Friday night, the Redmond High graduate and New York Mets standout put his stamp on the stadium with a pair of home runs in his team’s 7-5 victory. The Major League Baseball All-Star, age 24, has 21 homers this season and leads the Mets with a .291 average.

“I grew up coming to this stadium and watching those classic Mariners teams, the ‘01 team and so many teams along the way,” he said in a video interview on the MLB.com website. “For me to be able to come back here and play in an MLB uniform, this is pretty awesome.”

The Mets and M’s will play again at Safeco at 1:10 p.m. today and tomorrow.
