The Redmond High School track and field teams uncorked several winning performances during on a wet and blustery Thursday afternoon in a 4A Kingco meet against Roosevelt at Southwest Stadium.
The boys’ team won 64-42 and the girls’ team emerged victorious 87-59.
On the boys’ side, Cole Hardwick continued his solid sprinting season by winning the 100 meters in 11.64 seconds, while Scott Daley ran away from the field in the 200, clocking 24.24 seconds, a personal best.
Distance specialist Mack Young appeared to be in top form, with dominating wins in the 800 meters (2:04.64) and a 35-second victory in the 1,600 meters, running a 4:29.34.
Junior Miles Hille and senior Will Young finished a close 1-2 in the grueling 3,200, at 9:52.84 and 9:54.84 respectively, and senior Tyler Coffman had a great run in the 110 meter hurdles event, winning in 17.04.
Roosevelt dominated in the field events, winning five of seven, but Kevin Creekmore pole-vaulted a personal-best 11 feet, 6 inches and Coffman just edged out Roosevelt junior Tanielu Roach in the triple jump, leaping 38 feet, 6.75 inches to win by just over a foot.
On the girls’ side, sophomore Katherine Smiley came up big in the sprint events, winning both the 100 (13.74) and 200 (27.54).
Another sophomore, Allie Nichols, won the 800 in 2:35.64, and Devin McMahon continued her solid senior campaign by taking the 1,600 meters in 5:16.94 and crushing the field in the 3,200 with a time of 12:05.44.
The girls’ relay teams also did well, as Bailey Whittaker, Amy Pumputis, Darcy Hardwick and Katherine Smiley combined to win the 400 relay in 51.64, and the team of Whittaker, Allison Amaral, Keiko Montenegro and Smiley took the 800 in 1:52.64.
In the field, Rachel Axelrod’s shot put heave of 28 feet, 1 inch was good enough for a win, as was Katie Lord’s 5-2 high jump.
The Mustangs’ next meet is Thursday, April 15 at Redmond High School, start time 4 p.m.
