Bear Creek boys win 1A bi-district golf title; BC, Overlake golfers qualify for state

Bear Creek’s boys golf team won the 1A bi-district title on Monday at Jackson Golf Course in Seattle. The Grizzlies scored 44.5 points and second-place Kings had 41 points.

Individually, Bear Creek’s John Hayes tied for first with a 74 and then lost in a tiebreaker hole; Erik Vander Velden of Lynden Christian won the title. Bear Creek’s Oliver Nordberg finished in fourth place with an 81. Both Hayes and Nordberg advance to the state tournament on May 23-24 at Sun Willows in Pasco.

For Overlake’s boys, which took sixth in the team standings, Rohit Sirosh (fifth at bi-district: 81), Trent Gardner (14th: 89) and Justin Pong (18th: 91) qualify for state.

On the girls’ side, Overlake’s Julia Lee (24th at bi-district: 127) makes state on May 23-24 at Horn Rapids in Richland.
