Redmond’s Miyeko Johnson tied for 11th on floor at the 3A state gymnastics meet individual finals on Friday at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall. She tied with Joeli Pence of Lake Washington with scores of 9.350.
On Thursday, Johnson tied for fifth on floor with Piper Polanik of Kamiakin and Reigan Kampmann of Mt. Spokane with scores of 9.475.
Also for Redmond, on Thursday Leah Schare tied for 20th all around with Paige Chickering of Lake Washington with scores of 34.175. Redmond’s Elly Yochum competed on vault.
Johnson said that state was a fun experience.
“It was our last meet of the season and since our team was so small, we bonded and got really close as a team so we encouraged each other when we were competing,” Johnson noted in an email. “We also got close with some other teams so that was fun being able to compete with them for the last time.”
The Mustang had to score in the top 16 to advance to the second day.
“So I tried to (do) the best routine I could and had fun doing it because it could be my last routine of the season,” she said.
