Sierra Bilginer opened up the scoring for the Mustangs, with the Knights tying it up in the 65th minute.

In the 68th minute, Sidney Nilsen scored the game-winner off Kristen Hayman’s assist.

With the win, Redmond improved to 4-2-1 in 4A Kingco play and 5-4-3 overall, moving up to sole possession of third place in the league behind Issaquah (5-0-2) and Skyline (5-0-1).

 

Grizzlies’ Phillips scores five times in rout

Bear Creek senior Mark Phillips continued his amazing season with a five-goal effort, leading the Grizzlies to a 9-1 win over Evergreen Lutheran on Tuesday afternoon.

Phillips scored twice in the first 13 minutes of play, and added three more second-half goals in the 51st, 73rd and 79th minutes.

In addition, Nima Abtahi (two goals, two assists) had a big game for the Grizzlies, and Garrett Benson and Gave Rongve scored the other two goals for the team, which improved to 6-1-1 in Sea-Tac 2B league play and 7-1-1 overall.

 

Defending 1A champion Bush hands Overlake first loss

The Overlake girls’ team was handed their first loss of the season on Tuesday on the road, as Bush’s Phoebe Greenwald scored the game winner in Overtime in a 1-0 shutout loss.

The Blazers, who beat Overlake in the 1A title game last fall 1-0, are struggling this season at 2-7 in league play but became the first team all season to prevent the Owls from scoring.

With the loss, Overlake fell to 9-1-0 in Emerald City League play and 11-1-0 overall.

 

Bear Creek stays perfect in league with sweep

The red-hot Bear Creek volleyball squad kept its perfect Sea-Tac 2B record alive with a 3-0 sweep of Tacoma Baptist on Tuesday night, winning on game scores of 25-19, 25-12 and 25-21.

Bethan Meyer and Nikki Peterson swatted eight kills each to pace the offense, with Peterson also adding five aces.

Setter Michele Brown had 24 assists as the Grizzlies improved to 7-0 in league play and 13-1-1 overall.

 

Grizzlies’ cross country second at Fort Steilacoom

Running in a rainy, windy and wet Fort Steilacoom Park on Tuesday afternoon, the Grizzlies placed second as a team with 65 team points to Mount Rainier Lutheran, which won the Sea-Tac 2B League meet with 54 points.

For Bear Creek, David Broaddus placed second on the boys’ side, running 18 minutes, 51 seconds with Dylan Kern also cracking the top 10 in 19:31.

For the girls, Bridget Daugherty placed second in 22:57 and right behinid her was Joy Twentyman in fourth in 23:17.

 

Mustangs swept by Issaquah

Despite a game effort in the third set, the winless Mustangs fell to 0-6 in league play and 0-10 on the season with a 3-0 sweep at the hands of Issaquah 25-15, 25-14, 26-24.

For Redmond, Lauren Bogard led the team with 7 kills and Justice Magraw had 20 digs, but a 17-kill night by Sam Rogers was too much for the Mustangs to handle.

It was Issaquah’s first win of the year as they improved to 1-5 and 1-7 overall.
