Bear Creek’s boys basketball team defeated Orcas Island, 69-51, at its homecoming game last Friday.

Jace Blankenbeckler led the way for the locals with 18 points (including five 3-pointers) and six rebounds, followed by Trevor McRae with 17 points (including four 3-pointers) and five rebounds, Connor Pittman with 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals and Colby Cadigan with 10 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Bear Creek dished out 16 assists as a team.

Blankenbeckler, a freshman, is the fourth player in his family to wear No. 4 at Bear Creek after his sister Melissa, Kyle and Luke, who was in the stands watching the game.

Bear Creek is 3-0 in 1A Emerald City League and 5-0 overall.

On the girls’ side, Orcas Island won, 45-26. Alyson Wong led Bear Creek (1-2 league, 1-4 overall) with 14 points.
