Lady Hurricanes win fall 16U fastpitch championship

After winning the 14U United States Specialty Sports Association State Tournament last Spring, the Hurricanes fastpitch team, which contains several Redmond players, made a big jump in competition and won the 16U Fall State Tournament at Celebration Park in Federal Way on Oct. 2-3.

During the tournament, the Hurricanes batted .447 (46 for 103) as a team, and outscored their opponents 45 to 14 in their four wins, including a 13-7 slugfest in the championship game vs. the Capitol Lady Outlaws of Olympia.

“The statistics really support the notion that the Lady Hurricanes are simply a very tight group of decent ballplayers that totally believe in each other,” said Hurricanes’ assistant coach Mitch Baretta. “Whoever is on the mound, or up to bat, (we) have often demonstrated the epitome of the saying, ‘the whole is greater the sum of the parts.'”
