I am always amazed at the high-speed arm-waving people have with red-light cameras and traffic speeding cameras.

Usually those folks are the same people who get caught and try to shake off any accountability or responsibility for their poor driving.  Let’s see, the last time I looked driving is a privilege, not a right. And running red lights and blasting through school zones is deadly.

I’ve lived and worked in Redmond since 1991 and almost daily I see people who rip through school zones and run red lights. Just three years ago one of my children and a crossing guard were nearly run over at a school crosswalk by a speeding and oblivious driver. If these cameras put a sense of caution in just a few drivers and encourage some improvements in behavior, that’s a good thing and if the violators get busted with a ticket, even better.

The moaning and groaning to me sounds like drivers who would rather get away with blasting through school zones and running red lights.

And for the Tea-Party-esque uproar over big government and increased revenues, get over it. It’s pretty simple math. Don’t speed in school zones.  Don’t run red lights. And you won’t get a ticket.
