Re-elect Kim Wyman for secretary of state | Letter

Donald J. Trump or Hillary Rodham Clinton? Those names have voters scratching (or shaking) their heads this election season. But here in Washington voters have a statewide candidate for high office who is thoughtful, honest and experienced. In that race, Washington voters would be best served by re-electing Kim Wyman.

Donald J. Trump or Hillary Rodham Clinton? Those names have voters scratching (or shaking) their heads this election season. But here in Washington voters have a statewide candidate for high office who is thoughtful, honest and experienced. In that race, Washington voters would be best served by re-electing Kim Wyman.

Since being elected to office in 2012, Wyman has brought forth a record of results. Furthermore, she kept her promises when she was elected into office. As secretary of state, Wyman has improved access and integrity to our state’s elections, preserved our state’s heritage, and made it easier to do business in Washington state. She has been involved with elections for 23 years and has overseen more than 100 successful elections. Her experience and commitment to representing all Washington voters merited her endorsements from over 50 county elections directors — Democrat and Republican — across this state. Furthermore, three former secretaries of state endorsed Wyman.

Tina Podlodowski lacks experience to hold this office. In the state voting guide, she misrepresents herself as being a seasoned political official in touch with the public. In reality, she served one term on Seattle City Council in the 1990s. Further evidence of her inexperience was wanting to cancel the May 2016 presidential primary. This was even with ballots already mailed — an impractical and illegal proposal. Podlodowski has shown a lack of understanding in of Washington’s elections system and laws as well as an extensive streak of hyper-partisanship that is unbecoming of the office of secretary of state.

In 2016, voters have a choice. They can vote for Wyman, who embodies integrity and professionalism. They can vote for Wyman with her record of results and broad appeal that traverses political boundaries. I encourage you to vote for Wyman as secretary of state.
