Redmond’s Orange Blossom Society, along with Sponge are teaming up to offer an open-to-the-public celebration of Mardi Gras on Saturday, March 12, at Orange Blossom Society, 16715 NE 79th St in Redmond.
In the spirit of Mardi Gras this free event, held from 10 a.m. to noon, will include mask and necklace making, crafts, snacks, language classes and a parade.
Native-speaking teachers from Sponge, a children language education oragnization, will lead fun-filled Spanish and French classes. Orange Blossom teachers will help children adorn themselves with their own handmade colorful masks and necklaces, and then lead a joyous parade around the gardens. This event is geared toward children ages 10 and younger and their families.
Mardi Gras, also known as Carnival, traces its origins to the European middle ages. It is currently observed around the world, with some of the biggest celebrations in New Orleans, Brazil, Spain and France. A time for colorful festivities, Mardi Gras traditions include masquerades, dances and parades.
