Earlier this month, Redmond resident Kathryn Klepinger completed one of the most grueling endurance racing competitions in the world, the Ford Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.

Klepinger, who finished 27th in her age group among females from all over the world, finished the course in 13 hours and 20 minutes.

The Hawaii Ironman, consisting of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run, hosted competitors from 36 countries that battled intense heat, high humidity and severe winds.

Klepinger dedicated her performance to her father, who passed away from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease) on her birthday several years ago.
