Eastside winter shelters open today in Bellevue

Beginning Tuesday, the Eastside Winter Shelters for homeless men and women will be open through March 15, thanks to a collaborative partnership between the cities of Redmond, Bellevue, Issaquah and Kirkland, King County, Congregations for the Homeless, Seattle's Union Gospel Mission, The Sophia Way and many local congregations and individuals.

Beginning today, the Eastside Winter Shelters for homeless men and women will be open through March 15, thanks to a collaborative partnership between the cities of Redmond, Bellevue, Issaquah and Kirkland, King County, Congregations for the Homeless, Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission, The Sophia Way and many local congregations and individuals.

The two sites are located in Bellevue and will offer guests a meal.

“It is critical to ensure the safety and health of all individuals and families in Redmond and on the Eastside,” said Colleen Kelly, human services manager for City of Redmond. “These two shelters, located in Bellevue, will provide a lifeline to homeless individuals and families, while helping them take a critical step on their journey out of homelessness.”

The Eastside Winter Shelter for Homeless Men will sleep up to 50 men while the Eastside Shelter for Homeless Women and Families with children will sleep up to 15. The hours of operation are 8:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.

The men’s shelter will be at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church at 17222 N.E. 8th St. and the women’s shelter will be at the Salvation Army at 911 164th Ave. N.E., both in Bellevue.
