Prep Report: Redmond boys’ golf sneaks by Eastlake

The Redmond boys' golf team put together a solid performance against its arch rival, Eastlake, as the Mustangs beat the Wolves, 189-195, at the Bear Creek Country Club on Thursday. Charlie Mroz and Lyle Rudnicki shared medalist honors with an even-par 36, with Cole Helgeson, Jimbo Curtin and Conrad Croshawk all carding 39s.

Evan Alston was low man for Eastlake, firing a 1-over 37.

The Mustangs will be playing at the 4A Kingco Medalist Tournament at Snohomish Golf Course next Tuesday and Wednesday for the league championship and also to determine berths into the 4A state tournament next spring.

Redmond tennis nipped by Skyline

The Redmond boys’ tennis team shuffled its lineup and came close to defeating a tough Skyline tennis team on Thursday afternoon at home, but fell to the Spartans 4-3.

In singles action, No. 2 Scott Singleton defeated Tim Wong 6-0, 6-1, and No. 3 Dhruv Balakrishnan took care of Mitch Johnson 6-4, 6-0.

The No. 1 doubles team of Johnson Hsieh and Matt Lee finished strong against Brayden Hansen and Alex Wu, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

Grizzlies win league cross country meet

The Bear Creek School cross country teams ran well at Thursday’s Sea-Tac 2B League meet at Lake Wilderness Park in Maple Valley.

The boys edged Crosspoint Academy for the win, 40-44, and were led by senior Evan Simpson who ran the 5K race in 18 minutes, 27 seconds.

David Broaddus also ran a good race, finishing fourth in 19:16.

On the girls’ side, Bear Creek’s Joy Twentyman won the race, finishing first in 21:48 and leading the squad to victory with 15 team points.

Mustang soccer shut out by Ballard

Playing at Northeast Athletic Complex on Thursday night, Redmond was unable to muster any offense against Ballard in 2-0 loss.

The Beavers scored in the 1st and 70th minutes while keeper Jessica Spaulding earned the shutout in the 4A Kingco contest.

With the loss, Redmond dropped to 1-5-0 and 2-5-3 overall.
