The City of Redmond will celebrate the first Great Day of Play on Friday, August 19 from 3-7 p.m. at Redmond City Hall located at 15670 Northeast 85th Street.
The health and fitness-promoting event will feature a youth 3-on-3 basketball tournament, a 5K race/walk, skateboard and fitness demonstrations, trampoline fun and a special appearance by Seattle Sounders midfielder Steve Zakuani.
Zakuani, coming off a broken leg sustained in a game against the Colorado Rapids on April 22, is scheduled to give a brief presentation at 5 p.m. and will be available to sign autographs afterwards.
The basketball tournament begins at 2 p.m. is open to boys and girls entering grades 3 through 8, and will be held outdoors at the City Hall campus. Teams are limited to four players maximum and the entry fee is $75 per team. Pre-registration is online at www.redmond.gov/econnect.
The 5K course is along the paved Sammamish River Trail, with prizes in top categories awarded.
Pre-registration, at $30 per person, is done online at www.active.com under Redmond’s Great Day of Play. On-site registration is $35 and begins at 4 p.m., with the race beginning at 5:30. Registration is only $20 if done by July 31.
