On June 9, Nrityalaya Dance, an Indian classical dance school based on the Eastside with a number of students from Redmond, will hold two performances at the Cadle Theater at Lake Washington High School, 12033 N.E. 80th St. in Kirkland.

The shows will be at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Regular tickets are $15 and premium tickets are $20.

The show is focused on dharma, or righteousness, and the theme is “be truthful to who you are and what you do.” The show’s title “Dharmo Rakshathi Rakshithaha,” translates to “righteousness protects those who protect it.”

The show will be presented in the Indian classical dance form of Bharathanatyam and feature stories from sacred Hindu texts. The stories have been related to modern times and show how the lack of adherence to dharma — influenced by atheism, ego, addiction, corruption, over mining, de-forestation and pollution — has affected the environment and earth causing calamities and death.

Next Saturday’s performance will feature about 30 dancers of all ages from 7 to adults.

The following dancers are from Redmond: Haritha Parupudi, Anusha Kukreja, Meghana Noonavath, Vineeta Parupudi, Riya Thomas, Sashwatha Shankar, Shradha Shankar, Sahana Cidambi, Padma Ravikumar, Neha Venkatesh, Meena Kuduvu and Dimpu Thomas.
