The Bear Creek School senior Maddie Magee won gold medals in the high and long jump events at last week’s Bi-District track and field meet at the Southwest Athletic Complex in Seattle.

Magee, the two-time defending high jump champion, won the Bi-District title with a high jump of 5 feet, 5 inches. It was Magee’s fourth straight Bi-District high jump championship. She won the long jump with a leap of 16-2.

Magee leads a strong contingent of Bear Creek athletes who will be competing at this weekend’s Class 2B state meet at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Wash.

Morgan Rial also advanced to state in two individual events with a gold-medal win in the 300-meter hurdles and silver-medal performance in the 400 at the Bi-District meet. She won the 300 hurdles in 49.58 seconds and placed second in the 400 in 1 minute, 0.89 seconds.

Holly Ray also was a Bi-District gold medalist, winning the discus with a personal-best toss of 99-10. In addition, distance runner Joy Twentyman placed third in the 3,200 with a time of 13:06.53 to earn a spot to state.

The Grizzly girls also advanced two of their relays to state. Both the 400- and 800-meter relay team ran to second-place finishes at the Bi-District meet. The 400 relay team features Elizabeth Fernandez, Rial, Bridget Daugherty and Danielle Isbell. The 800 relay team is made up of Fernandez, Rial, Magee and Isbell.

The Grizzlies also advanced seven boy athletes to state. Jonathan Magee was second in the long jump (19-3) and third in the high jump (5-8) at the Bi-District meet. Sprinters Lucas Fernandez and Jesse Leuenberger also punched tickets to state as Lucas Fernandez was third in the 100 (11.86) and Leuenberger was third in the 200 (23.86).

Distance runner David Broaddus placed second in the 3,200 with a time of 10:51.59. Sam Ethington was third in the pole vault (10-0).

The Grizzlies also advanced their 400 relay team to state as Kerry Culbert O’Leary, Leuenberger, Mark Phillips and Lucas Fernandez ran to a first-place finish.
