Mustang gymnasts shine in Kingco win | Prep report

Performing in a 4A Kingco meet last Friday, the Redmond High gymnastics team had their best performance of the season during last Friday's 4A Kingco meet, scoring 148.4 team points to edge out Lake Washington (148.05) and Eastlake (114.25).

Redmond took first in each event, with senior Ally Garcia winning the vault (8.45) and floor (9.3), and Kaylee Borms taking the bars (7.1) and beam (9.0) events.

All-around was also dominated by the Mustangs. Garcia won the meet with 33.05 points, Borms came in a close second at 32.75 and Chelsea Polk took fifth with 30.1.

“Kaylee has struggled all season on bars and she finally hit where she is capable of being,” said head coach Jason Farr, adding that Garcia and Polk’s early-season ankle injuries have almost completely healed. “It was our best meet yet and I expect the girls to continue to improve.”

 

Redmond wrestlers sweep double-dual

Wrestling in a nonleague double-dual last Thursday against Juanita and Sammamish, the Mustang wrestling team won both matches, 42-25 over the Rebels and 46-30 over the Totems.

Highlights for Redmond in the Juanita match included Marcio De Faria (138) pinning Brent Patterson in 2 minutes, 28 seconds and Eli Grady (152) pinning Nathan O’Hanlon in 3:01.

In the Sammamish match, Brandon Long (138) pinned David Bloomsburg in 3:34 and Grady earned a decision win over Kyle Kasner, 16-8.

 

Overlake boys out-shot by SAAS

The Overlake School boys’ basketball team could not quite match the shooting consistency of Seattle Academy last Thursday night at home in a 1A Emerald City League matchup, falling to the Cardinals 64-53.

Overlake trailed 32-23 at the half, a deficit that got expanded to double-digits after the Cardinals, led by standout Jeremiah Hobbs (25 points) scored 20 in the third quarter.

For the Owls (2-4, 6-8 overall), Dean Poplawski put in a team-high 19, with Cameron Lui also scoring double-digits with 11.

 

Bear Creek teams beat Crosspoint

The Bear Creek School boys’ basketball team continued their rampage through Sea-Tac 2B league play with a 55-24 rout of Crosspoint Academy last Thursday night on the road.

The team scored 25 points in the first quarter and limited the Warriors to just nine points in the final three quarters combined.

For the Grizzlies, Erik Domas led with 15, and Gabe Rongve added 11.

On the girls’ side, the score was much tighter as the Lady Grizzlies faltered late but were able to hold on, 38-33.

The girls had an 18-2 lead after the first quarter, but a cold-shooting second half for Bear Creek made the game close. The win improved the team to 5-1 in league play and 8-5 overall.
