Redmond Police announced Wednesday that there was no criminal foul play involved in the death of a 50-year-old man found lying dead in an ivy patch in Overlake Dec. 30.

The King County Medical Examiner’s office identified the man found near an office building at 15446 Bel-Red Road as Redmond resident Timothy Carney.

The medical examiner’s office released the name Wednesday morning, but a spokesperson from the medical examiner’s office said “the cause (of death) is still pending investigation.”

Carney’s death “does not appear to be related to criminal activity,” according to a Redmond Police press release sent out Wednesday afternoon.

“While we can’t completely say this was an accidental death until the full autopsy reports are finished, nothing leads us to believe this was linked to crime,” said Redmond Police spokesperson Jim Bove.

Initially, Bove said the death was “suspicious,” saying that the man found in an ivy greenbelt the morning of Dec. 30 near the office building was either a suicide or homicide.

“Redmond investigators do not believe foul play was involved,” Wednesday’s press release said.

Carney was found by a public worker around 10:30 a.m. Dec. 30 face down with blood near him in between the office building and the wooded former Group Health site. Carney was wearing dark clothes and no jacket, Bove said.

Redmond Police cordoned off a large area — about 50 yards by 50 yards — with yellow tape as investigators scoured the scene. King County Search and Rescue later arrived with a specialized K-9 unit that searched the nearby area for clues.

Police believe the body was dead at least 24 hours before a public worker discovered it approximately 25 feet from the occupied four-story office complex.
