Levy will help ease space crunch in schools; vote yes
My family and I moved to Redmond 10 years ago. We decided to stay in this area for the amazing education that Lake Washington School District (LWSD) has provided our three children. Our oldest child will be attending Redmond High School in 2013.
There are many other parents out there, like myself, who have chosen to stay in the Lake Washington School District because of the exceptional education. This influx of families is partly why the district is facing its current space crisis.
It is a victim of its own success, with more families and students wanting to attend district schools than the schools have space for. The district has already taken measures to use the space it has now as efficiently as possible.
Therefore, other low-cost alternatives are being looked at, such as having students attend school in shifts. This will not only impact our children’s education, but I would imagine it will impact our community’s home values as well. The school board has proposed, in the upcoming levy, only the additions that are needed now, knowing that this is not the best time to ask for money.
It is now time to come together, as a community, to raise the money needed to expand classroom space in the right places, to accommodate this growth in our student population. We need to continue to support a great public school district by voting yes on Feb. 8.
