Defending champion Hancock’s Bakery of Redmond has made it to the final round in Hopelink’s March Can Drive competition, knocking off Greater Redmond Chamber of Commerce in week four of the competition.

Hancock’s collected 2,434 pounds this week for a total of 5,593 pounds so far.

In the fourth week of the contest, Guild Mortgage of Kirkland eliminated TONI&GUY Hairdressing Academy of Shoreline, bringing in 1,289 pounds of food for a total so far of 3,555 pounds.

To ensure businesses of all sizes are able to compete on a level playing field, the competition uses a special scoring system: the total pounds of food donated by a business are divided by the total number of employees, resulting in a competitive “score.”

The eight businesses competing in week four collected a total of 5,530 pounds of food and $443 in cash, bringing the total for the campaign so far to 18,670 pounds and $2,454 — closing in on doubling last year’s total of 9,809 pounds.

Competitors and the public are invited to the announcement of the winner and trophy presentation on Friday at JJ Mahoney’s at 8932 161st Ave. NE in Redmond from 4:30-5:30 p.m.
