Bear Creek senior Morgan Rial, the Reporter’s 2010-11 Female Athlete of the Year, came up big for the Grizzlies’ soccer team last night against La Conner, scoring the game-winner, unassisted, in the 77th minute in a 1-0 victory.
Keeper Ashley Emery earned the shutout in goal as the Grizzlies improved to 9-5-2 overall this season.
With a berth in the state tournament locked up, they will play Crosspoint Academy (11-2-0) tomorrow in a seeding game for the Tri-District championship.
Overlake sweeps Annie Wright, headed to state
Playing in the 1A Tri-District Tourament, the Owls’ volleyball team displayed some muscle in disposing of a red-hot Annie Wright (13-4) team last night, 3-0, to earn a berth to the 1A state tournament.
After winning a tight first set, the Owls rode that momentum to victory on scores of 25-23, 25-18 and 25-10.
Senior Kirsten Parris reached double-digit kills for the 11th time this year, swatting 13, followed by Emilee Chambard with five.
The win elevated Overlake to 14-7 overall, and the team will take on Lynden Christian tomorrow morning at King’s School (Garden Gym) at 11 a.m., with the winner to advance to the Tri-District Championship later that afternoon.
