The Orange Blossom Society will launch a Children’s Community Garden with a free event from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, May 1 at 16715 NE 79th St. in Redmond.

Activities will include planting vegetables in the garden’s “Patch for the Hungry,” arts and crafts and an introduction of The Caterpillar Club.

The Caterpillar Club is designed to instill curiosity and respect for the natural world, inviting children to become stewards of the environment.

Also during the May 1 event, children will learn how to construct scarecrows, erect a bean pole tipi and build a pea vine tunnel.

“We experienced tremendous response from the community event held in April where we hosted 100-plus attendees in the Earth Day festivities, which included the Redmond Fire Department, Kid Yoga and Green Redmond Partnership, among others,” said Orange Blossom Society founder Sharman Ghio.
