The Redmond High School baseball team was down but not out against the Woodinville Falcons Tuesday night at Hartman Field.

The Mustangs faced a 3-1 deficit going into the sixth inning, but they came back with three unanswered runs to steal the 4A Kingco win, 4-3.

Junior starter Dylan Davis got off to a shaky start, allowing two runs in first four innings, including a solo home run to senior Dan McMillan, as the Mustangs fell behind, 2-0.

Zach Abbruzza hit his second home run in two games to narrow the gap to 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Michael Conforto’s high pop fly fell into the grass for a double, and Davis launched a 3-2 curveball over the fence for a game-tying blast.

Later in the inning, junior pinch-hitter Colin McBride, with the count 1-2, stroked a clutch single up the middle to score the eventual winning run.

In relief, Matt Kimmel struck out all five batters he faced for the save.

With the win, the Mustangs improved to 5-1 (7-2 overall) in 4A Kingco and are now tied with Newport after their upset loss to Ballard (2-4 in league play) also on Tuesday night.

Next up, the Mustangs, winners of five straight, play against Roosevelt at Lower Woodland Park Thursday afternoon at 3:45 p.m.

REDMOND DRAWS WITH EASTLAKE

The Redmond High School boys’ soccer team came out firing against 4A Kingco rival Eastlake with an early goal, but had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Redmond High School on Tuesday night.

Midway through the first half, Shawn Cooley skidded a pass across to Max Luartes who found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. The advantage held up until a long shot for the Wolves from over 20 yards out, fired by Gerard Galvin, just eluded Redmond keeper Tyler Albin and found the net for the equalizer.

With the draw — Redmond’s first of the season — the Mustangs are now 1-4-1 in league play.

ABBRUZZA DOES IT ALL AGAINST EAGLES

Redmond High School junior Zach Abbruzza came up huge against the Issaquah baseball team Friday night at Hartman Park, as the Mustangs shut out the Eagles in five innings 11-0 in a 4A Kingco contest.

Issaquah, coming into the game with a 3-1 record and averaging nearly 12 runs per game in 4A Kingco play, got handcuffed by Abbruzza, who gave up just one hit in five scoreless innings while striking out five.

Michael Conforto, who hit his fifth blast of the season, and Dylan Davis went a combined 5-for-5 and Abbruzza also hit a home run as part of a five-RBI night.

The win capped off a perfect week for the Mustangs as they outscored their opponents 20-0 in three wins.
