Nursing a slim 31-28 lead after three quarters on Tuesday night at home, the Mustangs came up big in the fourth quarter with 27 points to win 58-45 over Jackson in their season opener.
Guard Leslie Ellis led all scorers with 22, followed by senior forwards Conner Floan and Jason Harrington with 12 each.
Transfer Kyle Sawtell, playing his first game in a Mustang uniform, also contributed 12.
The Mustangs play Bonney Lake tonight on the road, with tipoff coming at 5 p.m.
Overlake boys start out 1-1, Bear Creek routs Owls for first win
The Overlake School boys team won one and lost one to kick off its 2011 season, with a 55-31 win over Shorewood Christian on Tuesday, before falling to Bear Creek 63-39 last night.
In the Shorewood Christian game, Dean Poplawski led the Owls with a game-high 21, followed by Will Spencer and Cameron Lui with six apiece.
The win featured a monster 27-point fourth quarter that quickly put the game out of reach, after leading by a slim 28-25 margin after three quarters.
Last night, in an all-Redmond battle, the Owls fell behind early against Bear Creek at home and lost 63-39.
The Grizzlies, who led 40-13 at the half, were led by guards Jesse Leuenberger and Luke Blankenbeckler who put up 15 and 11 points, respectively.
Spencer led the Owls with eight in the loss.
Also on Thursday night, the Lady Grizzlies began their 2011 season with a big rout of Overlake.
The Grizzlies, who did not allow the Owls a field goal until the second half, were led by Kendall Engelstone with 10, Alyssa Jenson with nine, and Morgan Rial with eight as a total of 10 Grizzlies scored in the game.
For Overlake, Julia Turner put in four points.
